I can't even begin to explain how much I love going to thrift stores. Where some people are grossed out by the dusty items and mildew smell in the air, I have a near Pavlovian response to them where my heart starts beating faster in anticipation of the treasure I might find. I'm like a bride at a $200 wedding dress stampede and I can make my way through the store quickly while loading up my cart with possibilities and that's when the contemplation finally begins. I go get myself another empty cart and pick up each item I've collected. It doesn't matter to me that most of the items are really inexpensive...I don't think of it that way. If I don't love it or think I could fall in love with it with a bit of work, I put it back. Most often, I walk out with only an item or two and lots of times it's just a couple of hard back books that I like the look of. This mirror was quite the find as I paid only $3 for it in the bargain area and because I keep a list of items and the dimensions they need to be on me at all times, I knew it would be great even if it was only to tide me over for a while until I found one I couldn't live without.
So, after getting it home and simply taping it off, I used my favorite spray paint, Rustoleum, this time in Safety Red and started spraying. The key is to only go in one direction...I go left to right...in short sections and do a few really light coats. I typically don't even prime when I use this paint if the piece doesn't have a bunch of chipping paint.
And here it is in my entry...I still need to tack the lamp cord at the base of the moulding so you can't see it, but I like the overall look. I spray painted this small entry table as well with the same paint and added a new pull. My goal was to use some wallpaper or something in the inset portion at the top of the mirror, but I haven't found one I love yet so I'll keep my eye out. What do ya think? Not bad for a total of $10, right?
Have a really wonderful day everyone!
