Clean your plate! (and then hang it!)

If you're like most people, you lovingly got out your best china and for the one time each year allowed people to actually eat off of it. I'm not of that school. I like to celebrate the things I have, whether they be heirlooms or not, by using them in my everyday life. I feel like life's too short to use ugly plates. But, if that idea of everyday use causes you to break out in hives for fear that something might break, at least consider displaying them in a really great wall display. Plate hangers can be found at any big box store for mere dollars and by simply using newspaper cut out in the shapes of all the plates you want to incorporate, you can double stick tape the templates and move them around the wall until you're happy with the look. If you don't have a fabulous collection of plates, there is no shortage of them at thrift stores, online and even at the dollar store. They don't have to be fine china or even have beautiful patterns...they just need to complement one another in some way...or even just speak to you in a random style. As you'll see, dining rooms aren't the only place to incorporate a plate wall, so get outside that box and give it a whirl!

My October/November Stella & Dot sponsor, Davina James, has generously offered up a $50 gift certificate good towards any purchase made through her and her personal Stella & Dot site! So, if you enjoy what I do here you can do two things that make it all worth while.
A.) Comment away!
&
B.) Visit and support my sponsors! They are spending their hard earned money to support me in hopes that you will support them. And tell them Jen sent you! :)

As a close third, look no further for your next decor or event question or quagmire. I'm your girl for all things interior design: flooring, furniture, lighting, artwork, mirrors, home accessories, fabric, custom bedding and window treatments, Hunter Douglas blinds and shades, wallpaper, outdoor furniture and casegoods.

Happy Plaid Friday!

Plaid Friday is such a great thing!
We all know about Black Friday and the mad rush to make it through all the big box stores to save a buck or two. Some people love it, my mom for one who is probably currently planning her map of stores, but I, for one, am not such a big fan. It's not that I'm against saving some money, it's that I don't like all the hubbub and I'm not good with crowds.
Plaid Friday is the idea that the "little guys" need you to!

Plaidfriday.com describes it as "The name Plaid Friday celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. Plaid Friday is the fun and enjoyable alternative to the big box store "Black Friday," and is designed promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays."

So, don't forget to shop and support your small local businesses and independent shops and artists.
To encourage this, I'm happy to offer 20% off all consultations with me through the end of December. Need a great gift idea for friends and family? How about a gift certificate for Interior Image or Jen of All Trades? We're happy to offer 20% off gift certificates through December 20th!

To celebrate Plaid Friday, I thought I'd pull out some of my favorite plaid inspirations and share with you. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and make sure to check back tomorrow for a fabulous giveaway!

Happy Thanksgiving, Friends!

It's my sincere wish that each and every one of you have the most wonderful holiday weekend. I hope it's filled with family and love and lots of amazing food. I am hoping that those around the world that so often go without will be blessed with these miracles as well. I am so thankful today and every day for the support and love of my husband, my family, my inspiring group of girlfriends and for being able to do what I love for a living. I am thankful for all of you, too. For checking in with me every once and a while and for leaving me your thoughts and comments on some of my posts. It means more than you know. :)

Safe travels to all of you and I'll see ya back here tomorrow!

The Colors of Thanksgiving

I have bad news. I think I'm quite ill. I've done some research and it appears I have the very serious disease called "seasonal spurred schitzo-decoritis". My symptoms include the constant moving of my eyes around my home and making mental lists of what could be changed to better reflect the season. My house actually does pretty well stylistically in the fall and winter, so I'm lucky this time of year. For me, it's really spring and summer that's an issue for my deeper colored spaces. Anyhoo, if you're looking for a bit of inspiration on how to warm up your rooms to work with that roaring fire, the spiced cider on the stove and the cornucopia of gourds and acorns we've used all over our homes to prove that Thanksgiving is on it's way,
then you might just like these images.
